What is Reach and why does it matter more than height?
Reach is the horizontal distance from the bottom bracket centre to the top of the head tube. It's the most important number for modern enduro bikes because it determines how stretched out you are on the bike. A longer reach gives more stability at speed and on steep terrain; shorter is more playful and easier to manual. Height is a starting point, but two riders at 175 cm with different torso lengths will feel very different on the same bike.
Why does the YT Capra run small compared to other brands?
The YT Capra is known in the enduro community for having a relatively compact geometry compared to competitors like Specialized Enduro or Norco Range. An XL Capra (484mm reach) is roughly equivalent to a Large in many other brands. This is why some experienced riders size up on the Capra. For younger or smaller riders, this actually works in their favour — the S and M sizes are well-suited to riders who might be on XS or S elsewhere.
Should I size up or down on an enduro bike?
It depends on your riding style. If you ride fast, steep terrain with lots of high-speed descents — size up for stability. If you prefer technical, tight trails with lots of jumps and tricks — size down for agility. Most riders find sizing up one size on the Capra gives a more modern, confident feel on demanding terrain.
29" vs MX (Mullet) — which is right for me?
The full 29er rolls over rough terrain more smoothly and carries speed better — great for longer enduro stages. The MX (29" front, 27.5" rear) is more playful, easier to manual, and feels lighter at the back end — popular with younger riders and those who prioritise tricks and jumps. Both versions use the same frame sizing.
What protective gear do I need for enduro riding?
At minimum: a full-face or convertible helmet, knee/shin guards, and gloves. For more aggressive riding add elbow pads and a back protector. On bike park days or DH tracks, a full-face helmet is essential — never optional. A neck brace (like the Leatt DBX) is increasingly common among serious enduro riders and significantly reduces injury risk in crashes.
